Westgass is a bold, dynamic, Norwegian energy company, committed to developing clean energy solutions based on green hydrogen and green ammonia.

Our journey started in 2015 as a natural gas marketer. We have since grown our network across Europe, quickly cementing our reputation as a reliable, trustworthy partner for some of the world’s largest energy companies. In 2021, we achieved a turnover of EUR 180 million before selling off our natural gas business to solely focus on green energy.

This entrepreneurial success combined with our legacy of experience from energy majors gives Westgass a unique DNA to build new renewable value chains, and deliver affordable, clean and easily accessible energy to communities across the globe for a truly self-sustaining future.

Westgass is a bold, dynamic, straightforward Norwegian energy company. Established in 2015, we market natural gas sourced from producers on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

We have grown our network across Europe over the years and have quickly cemented our reputation as a reliable, trustworthy partner for some of the world’s largest energy companies. In 2019, we achieved a turnover of EUR 60 million.

Transitioning from natural gas to a green future

2015

Westgass is established in Stavanger, Norway to market natural gas.

2016

The company begins its first natural gas exports from the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

2019

KAM Group AS is established as a holding company for all Westgass interests, with an aim to transition from fossil fuel activities by 2023.

2021

Westgass Hydrogen AS is established to drive forward all green hydrogen and green ammonia related activities. The group achieves EUR 180m turnover from natural gas. COUNT Energy Trading B.V. acquires the group’s natural gas business.

2022

Westgass Hydrogen delivers green hydrogen to provide off-grid power.

2023

Scaling of green hydrogen distribution across Norway. First international green hydrogen production site in operation.

2026

Marketing of green ammonia in Europe. Large scale green ammonia production in sub-Saharan Africa.

Our ambition

By 2026, our portfolio will cover the full end-to-end supply chain of green hydrogen and green ammonia in Norway, Europe and emerging markets. By leveraging our extensive knowledge, professional expertise and industrial networks from the energy sector, we will enable customers to run carbon neutral operations.

Peter Mellbye

Chair

Peter is a former member of the Equinor Executive Committee where he served as Head of Natural Gas. He currently holds several non-executive positions in companies in the oil, gas and energy sector including Wellesley Petroleum AS, Statkraft Energi AS and TechnipFMC plc.

Arne Åkerlund

Chief Commercial Officer

Arne brings 40 years commercial and technical expertise in the oil and gas sector. Prior to Westgass, he held several senior leadership positions in Equinor including Chief Advisor, Natural Gas. In addition, he has broad experience from years with the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate and E.ON.

Kinar Kent

Chief Executive Officer

An accomplished business developer with over 15 years experience in European gas and power markets. Kinar comes with a rich blend of corporate and entrepreneurial experience from his time at Equinor and Shell, and from his own ventures in the biofuels and software sectors.

Jarle Molstad

Chief Innovation Officer

With 20 years commercial and operational experience in the energy sector, Jarle has a wealth of expertise in marketing and business related operational excellence with Equinor.
